The all-new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado stands out in multiple ways

The all-new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is here and after a full redesign, it is better than ever. Introduced in July of last year, the Chevrolet Colorado is a brand-new generation that features improved powertrains, a lot more technology inside, and improved functionality as well. It also introduces new Trail Boss versions for the first time and the rugged and impressive ZR2 model is even more capable than before. Let’s take a look at what allows the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado to stand out.

A single turbocharged engine with multiple output levels and impressive performance

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado arrives on the market with a significantly enhanced powertrain lineup. The engine options on the new Colorado have also been simplified, with only one engine offered, a 2.7-litre turbocharged powertrain. That said, this new turbo is available in three output levels depending on the Colorado model that you choose.

  • The WT and LT models deliver 237 hp and 259 pound-feet of torque which enables a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds
  • The Z71 and Trail Boss models come standard with an upgraded 2.7-litre turbo version that offers 310 hp and 390 pound-feet of torque. This allows the Chevrolet Colorado to tow up to 7,700 pounds. This engine is also available on WT and LT versions
  • The 2.7-litre High Output version is standard on the ZR2 and delivers 310 hp with a remarkable 430 pound-feet of torque

The engine has received multiple improvements that deliver better performance and make the power a lot more refined. The crankshaft is 30% stiffer and there is a more rigid cylinder block casting to provide better durability. Even in the base version, you get 18% more horsepower and 36% more torque than the previous Colorado’s base engine. This powertrain is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides smoother shifting and reacts more quickly to downshifts than the outgoing model.

The end result is a significant jump not just in performance but how the engine feels on the road. It is also more competent in off-road, low-speed driving situations.

A lot more luxury inside

One of the most significant improvements made to the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado can be found inside. The first thing you will notice is the standard 11.3-inch diagonal colour infotainment touchscreen which is the largest in the segment. It is paired with an 8-inch diagonal fully digital instrument cluster that is also standard on all Colorado versions.

The new Colorado also comes with the Google Built-in infotainment system that includes Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play. This provides more connectivity features with a range of available apps, live traffic updates, and hands-free voice communication. There are new technologies that also help when driving off-road such as the new off-road performance display which monitors real-time off-road performance and variables such as altitude and GPS information. You also get real-time pitch, roll, and tire pressure data as well as G Force, wheel slip, and transfer case information.

The 2023 Colorado also provides up to 10 camera views from the main centre screen. These views help you when towing but they also help you when driving off-road. The Colorado adds to its off-road capability by offering the first-ever underbody camera in a midsize truck on the Z71 and ZR2 models.

There are multiple driving modes as well that allow you to fine-tune the behaviour of your Colorado based on where you are driving. The modes included Normal, Towing, Off-Road, Terrain, and BAJA. These modes all adjust different elements of the 2023 Colorado including transmission shift points, throttle response, brake performance, and drivetrain calibrations.

When driving off-road, the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado truly stands out. With its massive 38.3° approach angle and 25.1° departure angle, the ZR2 is by far the most capable Colorado model off the beaten path. It also provides 10.7 inches of ground clearance. That said, the Z71 and Trail Boss both deliver around 30° of approach angle and 22° of departure angle with 8.9 inches and 9.5 inches of ground clearance respectively. This makes the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado a very impressive performer off the beaten path.
